The Progressive Era was a time period from the 1890's to the 1920's, in which political activism and social reform flourished in the United States. The main goal of the Progressives was the elimination of corruption within the government. The Progressives planned to do this by exposing "Political Machines ". The three men who held presidency during the Progressive Era were Theodore Roosevelt, William Howard Taft, and Woodrow Wilson. These men are often referred to as the Progressive presidents, each of them promoted fair competition for the benefit of consumers.
The Gilded Age was a period in the United States from 1870 to 1898, in which growth of industry, materialism and, political corruption ran rampant. The Gilded Age was also an age of rapid economic growth, causing American wages to sky rocket much higher than those in other countries such as Europe. This exponential growth did not go unnoticed by other countries attracting millions of immigrants to flood in to America and join the workforce. Even with this massive migration of people the wages for Americans continued to increase marking the Gilded Age.
